As part of Theo Ferguson’s deep commitment to honoring the Spirits of Life, she has produced Systems to Heal the Climate as an offering to shamans around the world. The shamans can then use these systems to call the Spirits of Life to heal the climate. Three Systems have been delivered to date to shamans in Peru, Mongolia, and Western Russia.
The Systems are composed of 1) a tray with at least 5 colors of corn on which materials to offer the Spirits of Life are prepared; 2) a Mesa Bundle folded into 1/6th of a Shibibu cloth holding materials to support a shaman’s offering to the Spirits of Life zipped inside a water proof membrane; 3) a Remo drum that fits over the Mesa Bundle’s water proof membrane, and 4) a customized water proof container with a handle that includes a Velcro holder for the drum stick.
The first System to Heal the Climate was delivered to Don Francisco, Don Pablo, and Don Pasquel of the Q’ero people during the Winter Solstice in the Southern Hemisphere on June 24, 2011 at the Hacienda in Pisa’q, Peru. Theo joined a group of advanced shamans on a Four Winds Society Expedition mounted to Holy Mother Mountain Salkantay (15,00’) to study the nine stages of Peruvian Shamanism.
Following her trip to Peru, Theo met Zagdaa, the only Mongolian Darkhad Buryiat Shaman at the Foundation for Shamanic Studies in January 2012. After mentioning her quest to find six shamans whose places are impacted by climate change, Zagdaa then invited Theo to Summer Solstice in Mongolia to deliver Systems to Heal the Climate.
Theo was the only participant outside of Asia to participate in the 2012 Summer Solstice celebration of the first Corporate Union of Mongolian Shamans at the Blue Lake outside Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Theo gifted two Systems to Zagdaa and her student and daugher, Octyabar (who lives an practices in Western Russia) on June 25th, 2012.
Over the next several years, three more Systems will be delivered, including: a connection through Yidumduma Bill Harvey, an aboriginal elder in the Northern Territory of Austrailia in the Southern Hemisphere and possibly to the San People in Africa (the earliest homosapiens). The final Holder of a System to Heal the Climate will reside in a place challenged by climate instability in North America.
